Ramstein Flag 25-1 was centrered around the exercise areas of the North Sea. The participating aircraft flew form the home base or host airbases close to the sea.
Leeuwarden Air Base hosted the international Ramstein Flag exercise from March 31st to April 11th. This NATO exercise replaced Exercise Frisian Flag this year. In addition to Leeuwarden, several air bases were involved in Ramstein Flag. Operations took place from Skrydstrup in Denmark, and air bases in the United Kingdom, such as RAF Marham and RAF Fairford, were used for the exercise.
Support was also provided by numerous tanker aircraft and reconnaissance aircraft operating from various air bases in Europe. More than ninety fighter aircraft from across Europe participated in this major NATO exercise.
NATO units were prepared to conduct a large-scale war scenario over Europe to defend European territory. The exercise went beyond aircraft and also focused on air defense using land-based or sea-based missiles. Besides air assets, air combat management also played a vital role in the Ramstein Flag scenarios.
